MnUSA Region 1 Meets in Fertile, MN
The MNUSA Region1 Fall Meeting was held at the Snow Cruisers Club House in Fertile MN on November 17, 2012. The attendance was very good with everyone looking forward to lots of snow after last year’s disappointing winter. Attendees included club members from many of the clubs in Region1, many of the Clubs sponsors, DNR officials, and all the MNUSA Region 1 Directors. Some of the items discussed were upcoming legislation, permits required for trails on all roadways including township roads, scholarships, Winter Rendezvous, where to groom on roadway right of ways, and sponsors responsibilities.
A presentation covering insurance for snowmobile clubs, club members, club events, and club trail operations was put on by Merwyn Larsen of Erickson-Larsen Insurance Company. A question and answer session was held after the presentation. Everyone felt the presentation was very good with many of the question explained thoroughly and in terms that were easy to understand.
Dave Schotzko of the DNR showed a slide presentation of problems that he and his people have found on the trails. What we seem to think is a very minor situation can turn into major problems when someone who is not a local is riding a poorly marked trail or a groomer happens to leave a pile of snow in the wrong place. We even found out a DNR person can even miss a turn and end up riding around in someone’s field wondering where the snowmobile trail disappeared too.
Noon lunch proved to be a noon feast rather than a lunch. The feast was provided by the Snow Cruiser Snowmobile Club of Fertile. We were treated to a ham dinner with all the trimmings. A big thanks to the Snow Cruisers Club and especially to Mandy Gudvangen, Cruz Baranski, Bobby Yuergens and Gordy Gudvangen for doing the cooking, serving, and cleanup. The one question in everyone’s mind as we left was when will they invite us back again for more of those morning monster pastries?
